Vacation begins!
Yeah for a week with no school! My last day of teaching was on Saturday. I usually teach on Saturday but these were my CuiWei kids the ones I usually teach Monday-Friday. Because we have a week off, all the students had to go to school on Saturday and Sunday. Strange but true. The kids were terrible!!! There's a reason kids are suppose to have a weekend and not go to school for 8 days in a row.
Sunday was a nice relaxing day with not too much to do. I bought new sandals at a market nearby since mine fell apart during winter break vacation. Then Heather and Feng Chao came to pick up Bernie the Bunny to watch her while I'm gone. We found out that taxi drivers really don't like taking rabbits in their cars. After flagging down three of them, I went back to my apartment and got Bernie's small baby cage. Only then would a driver take them.
Monday morning I left for Wuhan. The new bullet train I was on was awesome! It was super comfortable. The seats were more like airplane seats (and they actually reclined!) then normal train seats. There was air conditioning and no smoking! The train travels at speeds up to 250kph so I got to Wuhan in 8.5 hours, a trip that is normally 12-14 hours.
Wuhan has been a lot of fun. I've met some of Becky and Zach's Chinese friends. Yesterday morning we went to the breakfast street. It's a street full of vendors selling Chinese breakfast foods. So yummy! My favorite was a pancake folded like an omlette with bananas, raisans and peanuts. The we took the ferry across the Yangtze River to the pet street. So many cute puppies, kittens and bunnies! They even have big dogs here in Wuhan! (I never see big dogs in Beijing) At night we went out for Chinese (surprise!) and bought a movie to watch later.
This morning Destin came from Yinchuan. We'll spend the day relaxing and exploring Wuhan.
